Attack Attack! are back, to prove the critics wrong. Say hello to Caleb Shomo...
It’s fair to say Attack Attack! have a bit of a reputation, as that outlandish band with wacky dance moves that did that Katy Perry cover. They have faced quite a lot of criticism from the press, and with their latest self-titled release it appears they’ve come to put all those critics to shame, good one lads.
First track, and single release ‘Sexual Man Chocolate’ doesn’t bode well for the band given it’s chosen name, but woah - it’s a belter of a tune. Yes, they still have their famous break-downs and metalcore riffs, but it’s amazing how much they have progressed. New vocalist Celeb Shomo has dismissed the vocoder, and adds deeper screams to the band’s songs, which has improved them ten-fold.
This album gives us songs which are less-laughable, and shows the band are actually trying to impress this time round. Stand out track ‘I Swear I’ll Change’ sounds like a completely different band. Attack Attack! are obviously trying to prove something here, and are pushing themselves into that desperately needed different direction.
Towards the end of the album, I was truly impressed by the sound the band have managed to create. Yes, they may use too much double-bass pedal and break-downs, but God bless ‘em – they’re really trying. They may still have the comical song names, but within them is a matured, furious sound. That’ll show you, critics.
