Cerulean’s blue sky thinking conjures up the glo-fi daydreams of Toro Y Moi and the tetchy brain skiffle of LA’s Flylo or Daedelus (who, coincidentally, introduced Baths to his current label). Baths - Former Post-Foetus artist Will Wiesenfield - might name tracks things like ’Rafting Starlit Eveglades’ and ’Apologetic Shoulder Blade’, but his music aims for the heart as much as the mind.
The tripped out Hip-Pop of ‘Rain Smell’ elucidates drenched heartbreak, whilst Wisenfield seems as keen to distance himself from the LA scene as his thick sounds are to celebrate it. Juxtaposing euphoric Gold Panda rattle (‘Aminals‘) against dreamy swathes of remorse (Rafting Starlit Everglades), he’s the beat scene’s optimistic conscience.
And what better fuel but desire? Track four simply bears the symbol of a heart shape and throughout distorted vocals sing of forbidden love. Stand out ‘Maximalist’s’ sample states “It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence”, that’s true, but in doing so Baths have staked a fine claim for your attention.
