It occurs to me, as no surprise, that FAR have returned with abum number five hot on the heels of WEEZER's Raditude and DEFTONES's briliant DIAMOND EYES.
After all, the mutual appreciation between these bands is well documented and well known...
Hell, Chino Mareno himself has stated without either of these two bands he would not be a singer... But the reason it is not a surprise is because, as much as i love those other two albums (massively in Deftones case - arguing it could be the best of their already golden careers) - FAR have come out swinging with a selection of new songs that take on their acolytes and followers and sundry legion copycats head on with attitude that far outweighs any counter attack thrown their way...
Simply put, FAR, have out-punched the competition, and released one of the best albums of its genre in years...
Emotional, full of moments of beautiful sonic wonderment that it makes your every fibre of being resonate with pure white energy, moments of gut-punch hardcore burst forth from nowhere and then from the leftest of leftfields, they go and drop a Ginuwine cover in at the end and royally fuck your brain with giant rock'n'roll shaped sex appendages...
FAR... Masters of the unknown.
XTRA MILE have done themselves an amazing bit of business signing this band, already a fave of everyone from Funeral For A Friend to The Used, and with a front-man in Jonah Matranga that is part evangelical preacher man and part howling banshee madman - it seems like a perfect piece of business with band and label seemingly made for each other.
If you were a friend of Matranga before, because any fan of Far and Jonah Matranga is indeed his friend - he says so himself - then this album will simply reaffirm your belief in their ultimate greatness...
But if you have Never heard of them?
Well...
You could do worse than buy this album immediately and throw it on the stereo very loud and dance like a complete twat for the duration...
Within one listen you'll learn all the words and be singing these songs for several days after...
Believe me... you can;t help but.
It is a brilliant release, and i implore you to buy it now and spread the good word.
FAR.
Here to save music...
And succeeding in every possible way.
