Dear.Sweet.Baby.Jesus.
I am in love...
A band who can do fuzzed up, Mars Voltaesque rock - but with added sex, added dark and added drrty grrl attitude?
Yes fucking please... Says I.
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals are the band who quite possibly could have just made Christmas come twice a year... They could have saved the summer with their steamy hot, sexed up jazzy, fuzz-rock - with guitars like something from Cedric Bixlers and Omar Rodriguez's wet dreams, and a singer who sounds like the unholy, but gorgeous, spawn of Carina Round, Florence (minus her machine), Welsh jazz strumpet (and borrower of David Coulthards chin) Duffy and Robert Plant... In Sexgod mode.
Tracks like Opener PARIS (Ooh La La) is a burst of soulful retro rock that bursts from every direction at once, but is anchored by the voice of singer Grace Potter - who can literally wail with the best of them... Follow up track OASIS is a Mars Volta slice of space rock, with guitars coruscanting and building to epic prog proportions before exploding into bubbles of pure filth and lasiviousness...
"GOOD" really doesn't really come close to an appropriate enough word to cover its majesty...
If you are looking for a band who can move mountains with musicianship alone, or a band fronted by a proper singer with proper talent and very little in the way of gimmick - then look no further...
This is music that can svave lives, and also save your belief in proper bands with SONGS! and CHORUSES! and who will beat the trend of one album careers, and can and hopefully, will - be around for a while to thrill us with the brilliance of their songs...
Ooh La La indeed.
