God I’m a sucker. Bit of nice packaging with a hand drawn errr heart on the cover - should have pricked up my spidey sense - and I’m actually looking forward to listening to Jont. Looking forward to it thinking it was going to be a fine slice of experimental something or other. You know some stripped down Animal Collective crossed with Tunng type shit, or at least interesting Devendra influenced folk. But what I actually get is another same old singer songwriter, one part Lou Reed and 99 parts Damian Rice. And that’s a some watered down shit.
He’s got a nice voice, his songs are obviously shot from the heart and he’s got fine taste in packaging. I notice in the press release he has a love for art, poetry and the like and the packaging makes more sense. And let’s face it, there’s a whole world of singer men out there, strumming away their stories and I just can’t see anything that chalks this man above his contemporaries. Sorry n’ all that.
