Hailing from Denver, the most populated city in Colorado apparently, Kissing Party are a twelve legged indie-pop making monster. Having released their debut album ‘Hold Your Hour and Have Another’ in 2006 and following it up in 2007 with ‘Rediscovered Lovers’, Kissing Party have been working hard at making a name for themselves. The Denver post rated them as third best album to come out of Denver in 2007 and they have filled the gaps in between with drinking sangria (if their Facebook interests are accurate) and doing general band-like things.
In regards to their sound, they sit somewhere between the lush pop tones of Belle and Sebastian, The Velvet Underground and The Jesus and Marychain. Basically, its home grown bedroom indie-pop with soothing boy/girl vocals and shimmering poppy fun… ness. ‘The Hate Album’, despite the name, is an uplifting little beaut. It would be the perfect soundtrack to a sunny walk along a river or a picnic or a barbeque on the balcony or… you get the idea. Gentle yet soaring guitars jangle their way through the album taking you on an uplifting journey that is perfectly accentuated by the sweet sounding vocal delights from Deirdre Sage and Gregory Dolan.
If you need a little pick me up or an enhancement to an already good mood, you like Belle & Sebastian or Pains of Being Pure at Heart and want something new, then please, start here.
