Nitkowski is made up from Dan, Alex and Ed. Dan, Alex and Ed make a lot of noise. The noise Dan, Alex and Ed makes is complex, severe, almost-brutal and then sometimes it is melodic, calming and, well, off it goes again. Nitkowski (I have to keep saying it aloud so I type it right – ‘nit kow ski’) remind me an awful lot of a young pAperchAse, only less haunting and dramatic and more math rock. And to be entirely honest, I am not quite sure what to make of them. One minute I like their unique brand of creepy math-rock, one minute I think they have over done it and there is too much going on. They compare themselves to Shellac, which is nonsense really, apart from some of the timings. As a whole, though, ‘Chauffeurs’ is a commendable record, it shows some amazing musicianship not just in the playing but in the complex song writing, it’s just a little O.T.T in places.
