On a first listen, this collection of unabashedly heart felt, ebullient pop punk gems seem a little tired. For Gods sake how many bands are there out there peddling this same melodic pop punk, raspy vocals before the huge, soaring chorus kicks in. It’s certainly true that Reno Divorce are offering nothing we haven’t heard before. Original or envelope pushing, they sure as hell aint. But then again, there’s nothing stale about these uncontainable melodies. The raucous joy of the likes of ‘Supercharger’ and breakneck speed of ‘Firecracker’ are nothing to b!tch at, and after a few listens, it’s evident that the band’s understanding of what makes great pop-punk is what mostly defines them. Unfortunately, ‘Tears Before Breakfast’ is synonymous with a million other bands who not only have been here, done it and have the T shirt, but who have also done it with more flair.
