Touring in support of their new album, young Glaswegian quintet, Bleed From Within don’t just get on the stage, they get on the stage and cane it. New tracks are a clear progression from their empty debut with a more original and complex sound. Their guitarist is a real standout member but they’ve all clearly been at the grindstone with their individual disciplines as frontman Scott Kennedy oozes a newfound confidence and is extremely engaging. The music still lacks something despite improvement, but all the other elements are there.
It’s a show that positions the band somewhere potentially quite exciting, revealing their new realms of maturity and technicality. If the band invests the time needed to pin down their own identity it could give them that much needed extra push.
Following in a similar pattern, Trigger The Bloodshed were totally off of the scale. Their new material makes for a far more interesting set and sees the crowd more geared up and getting involved than ever before. Guitarist Rob Purnell is pummeling out riffs so punishing they look like they are putting him in pain, and drummer Dan Wilding pulls of their intense percussion with an enthusiastic ease. This is the best Trigger have ever been.
Seeing the two bands rise from a musically underwhelming start and throwing everyone off their previously cynical tracks is great. This London show saw both prove how they have the unseen potential to become international metal heavyweights and Subba can’t wait to see if they do it.
