As compilations go - i believe there is generally a rule of thumb, that the tracks need to cascade and flow and tumble, one into the other - with subtlety and nuance and moments of jarring explosive sound...
The Red Bull Academy is a tour created to showcase new acts and new bands and artists to a wider audience, and to push the boundaries of what a tour should be...
This CD is created as a musical, aural document of some of the highlights of the tour, featuring the artists and people who made the Academy what it was...
As a compilation, however, it is lacklustre and badly formed - the music all listenable, yes, but terribly convuluted and the way it ebbs and flows into each new track is clumsy and distracted...
A good album, yes, but sub-par in execution - when compared to how the iive effort works.
I enjoyed it... for what it was, but i demand more from a compilation, i want rules adhered to, and flow, and feeling - and as it was, the construction damages the finsihed article...
A wasted effort?
No.
A missed opportunity?
Definitely.
Colour me Ambivalent.
