V.O. is short for Version Originale, which in case you didn’t know is the term for watching a film as its original version, with no dubbing. So now we know that, let’s get to grips with the band. V.O. is the project of Boris Gronemberger, a Belgian singer-songwriter, guitarist, vocalist, and percussionist of abounding talent and hyperactivity. This is the debut UK released album from V.O., and judging from this album, we are happy and lucky to have them. The album was mixed in Cardiff by Charlie Francis (High Llamas, REM, Soy un Caballo), so it only seems right that we should get a piece of the action!
Obstacles is a strangely beautiful and delicate piece that broods with subtle melodies and post-rock moodiness. There are moments of experimentalism, and ‘Where is Your Home’ is quirky, soothing and interesting. Furthermore, ‘Sample Song’ is just gorgeous.
Whilst this album is nothing to write home about, it is still a great slab of emotive and melodic , tamed, experimental pop-rock. Definitely worth a listen!
