Attack! Attack!
Attacking Liverpool with venom and wit! Subba caught up with the stars of Guitar Hero ahead of the UK Headline tou
SC caught up with Ryan and Neil to talk about Guitar hero, America and next... the world as Cardiff boys Attack! Attack! Plan to take over... try and remember where you are though Ryan.
Subba-Cultcha: How is tour going for you guys at the moment?AA: Great actually Daniel, this is our third show Neil? Fifth actually... well whatever it’s going fucking great anyway.
SC: Many sell out shows yet... good turnouts? AA: Yeah busy shows, you know it’s a step up from last time and it’s going great things are looking up. It’s really fucking weird that we get people turning up and... In the middle of a song we’ll just stop playing and the crowd will sing along... we absolutely love it.
SC: When did you first realise that this was getting serious and not just your hobby, but your career? AA: Oh I don’t know about that... going to America I think... on the plane thinking shit... we’re going to America... we’re going to record an album, we haven’t got any songs we need to get fucking serious... and that was it then I think and we got back, labels interested and thought fuckin’ hell.
SC: How did you guys get together?AA: Me (Ryan) and Mike are like... cousins, and played together in a band when we were younger... we all kind of know each other through the Cardiff music scene and we’ve all played with each other... well, not played with each other but you know... well by know we have. Me and Ryan were hanging out one day and started jamming and thought, wow, this seems pretty good... and just carried on from there.
SC: Why the name, Attack! Attack! A reflection of your music maybe?AA: Well, we just thought it was catchy and it was actually our friend’s band name at the time... but he didn’t end up using it so we were like... we’re fucking having it.
SC: Who are/were your favourite artists either now or when you were getting in to rock music?AA: I wasn’t really into Punk music really growing up. The Stereophonics, really did it for me to be honest... being local boys as well you just used to see them walk the streets and what have you and then you’d see them on the TV and stuff.
SC: Who are your favourite upcoming bands?AA: Band from Swansea called Portraits... A band called Tiger Please as well, Cuba Cuba... awww there is so fucking many.
SC: Where is your favourite place to gig and why?AA: Got to be Scotland... they really appreciate it. Scotland’s like a home away from home for us. I think it’s because culturally, Scotland are Wales are pretty similar... so we feel more comfortable there to. Every time we’ve played there it’s been amazing... the fans really go for it. Just like Newcastle as well... the fans love it up there; they come out, want to party, sing along and just have a good time... which makes us feel good you know and want to come back again and again.
SC: Is it stressful being on tour? Or do you leave that to the tour manager?AA: This tour hasn’t been stressful at all as we got a bus for this one. We got like three guys doing everything for us... so it’s pretty cool.
SC: What was the very first tour like for you guys?AA: Four of us in a van, not knowing what the fuck to do, cuddling up each other for warmth like... brilliant... still cool like now we’ve got a bus which is bizarre.
SC: Who has been the most entertaining band to tour with?AA: Said Mike... just fucking... pissed all the time. They’re just ridiculous... they just make me laugh, even just when they are sitting there at the computer... I just have to look up and laugh, just a really good bunch of boys. I thought the You Me At Six tour was pretty fun as well, especially the guitarist Max he’s pretty crazy like... and The Blackout we had an amazing time with them, they are like brothers... we are all from the same place, we’ve known each other for so many years now...
SC: Your new single ‘You and Me’ was out yesterday the 23rd, how is it going down with the fans at the moment?AA: It’s one of the crowd favourites... and it’s a single in its own right, wouldn’t necessarily be our choice of single but aren’t all our tracks worthy of being singles?
SC: What’s the concept for ‘You and Me’?AA: Two different minds thinking opposite really that’s about it... the lyrics say it all.
SC: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years, playing Warped Tour maybe?AA: Oh my god, Ten years married maybe, hopefully still alive and not in Prison. On Guitar Hero... fuck it I’m going to say it... on the next Guitar Hero... You and Me on the next guitar hero... I just want try and play it on expert.
SC: Any advice for any of the fans wanting to be in your shoes? AA: Don’t wear my shoes they fucking stink... Do it for the right reasons, don’t do it to be cool, do it because you enjoy playing music. Keep it up and don’t do it if you care about money because there is no money in it what so ever.
