The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans, Europe’s largest action sports and music festival is back in 2009 with major changes.

After 3 years at the Boardmasters, Relentless Energy Drink has taken title sponsorship of the event in a deal that will take the Boardmasters into the next decade. The event also welcomes another long term partner of the event, the Vans Shoe Company, as associate sponsors.

The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans returns to Newquay, the home of British surfing, in 2009 for what will be the most complete Boardmasters to date. The event will now take place over 5 days from 5th-9th August. With the current value of time ever increasing the five day schedule is a welcome change. The new format will allow for a more complete and condensed package including everything from previous years plus more, in what will provide the Boardmasters faithful audience all they have come to expect from the event.

The $120,000 5 star WQS International surfing event will host the worlds best surfers at Fistral beach in what is the highest quality surfing event in England. In addition to this, Relentless will once again demonstrate the most radical and progressive form of surfing with the Relentless Aerial Assault. Using a jet ski, surfers are towed into waves enabling them to perform moves impossible in regular surf conditions.

The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans is proud to announce its largest headliner to date, The Streets, who will play the main stage on the stunning cliff top venue at Watergate Bay. Previously known as Unleashed the event this year will feature three stages with an increased capacity of 12,500 per day from 7-8th August. The music festival will feature something for all music lovers and more in the form of more action sports such as FMX.

Vans increased support and heritage in skateboarding will bring increased knowledge, providing additions and improvements to the long standing skateboarding history of the event. 2009 sees the tenth anniversary of Vert skateboarding and as such skate and bmx will be celebrated in the appropriate manner. With over $30,000 dollars available over vert, street and mini ramp events, Vans will be shaking up the Boardmasters village and Newquay’s Wooden Waves Skatepark.

The Beach Sessions, now in their 4th year, will be providing a platform for a mix of the best in new and established music acts to an 800 capacity in the Beach Bar overlooking Fistral Beach. Breaking acts of their time such as Enter Shikari and Newton Faulkner have graced the Sessions stage while acts with firm fan bases such as Capdown and Hundred Reasons have offered something different.

With 3 sites across Newquay offering surf, skate, bmx, daily live music acts and a music festival for 12,500 people the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans 2009 will be the highlight of the UK summer. Add to that a fresh injection of enthusiasm from exciting new deals with Relentless and Vans the event will be taken to a new level.

The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans must finally extend a huge thanks to its previous exiting title sponsor Rip Curl without whom the event would not be here now. Rip Curl and the Boardmasters grew a 3 star ASP WQS Surf event into the 5 Star WQS Surf and Music Festival it is today and for that support the Boardmasters will always be grateful.

James Hendy, marketing manager of Rip Curl had the following to say “After enjoying a fantastic 10 year relationship as presenting sponsor of the Boardmasters we have decided that the time is right to leave our affiliation with the event on a high note. Over the coming season Rip Curl will be concentrating on promoting its international events portfolio such as "The Search and Bells World Championship Tour events whilst still investing in our "grass roots" initiatives like the Rip Curl GromSearch series and Girls Tour in the UK.

Although we will not be officially a Sponsor of the Boardmasters this year we will be attending with our top European and international Rip Curl team riders as well as running programmes in our new Rip Curl Newquay store which is due to re-open this coming Easter.”
