Seattle’s independent music scene has a bold new voice with the release of Nervous Systems, the debut album by local artist Dan Powers, known professionally as Mutual Shock. The album dropped this week and is already turning heads in alternative and electronic music circles.
The ten-track album explores themes of modern disconnection, work culture fatigue, and social unrest—all set to a moody, synth-driven backdrop. Powers combines elements of post-punk, darkwave, and industrial to create a sound that feels both retro and deeply current.
Singles like “Destroyer” and “Bore Me” have been praised for their intensity and atmospheric depth, drawing comparisons to artists such as Depeche Mode, Boy Harsher, and New Order.
Nervous Systems is now available on streaming services worldwide. Mutual Shock is expected to announce live dates later this year.
